The Google Profile Edit That Can Delete Years of Your Reviews

Changing a phone number or an email address on your profile feels like the smallest possible piece of admin. On this show, the executive who escalated the problem inside a brokerage says any change to your profile information could set off a fresh Google review of the whole thing, ending in suspension or deletion of a profile you spent years building.

The Quick Take

Seth Siegler describes the year's ugliest surprise for agents. Google started "retroactively going back now and checking uh the compliance for certain rules" that had gone unenforced. On top of that, an edit could set the same process off: "you made like a change of a phone number or an email address or any sort of change to the information on your profile. Google would review your profile".

Where that lands is the part agents do not expect: "suspension of your profile", and "in some cases deletion of your profile". As they put it on the show, "just years of hard work gone" - on the one place agents have "spent years getting reviews".

Support made it worse. "some of those Google support agents were inaccurately telling agents that they weren't even eligible to have a Google profile, which is wrong." The problem only got solved because it escalated to people with a direct relationship with Google.

The Useful Part

“you made like a change of a phone number or an email address or any sort of change to the information on your profile. Google would review your profile”

Our Take

Most agents treat that profile like a directory listing when it behaves more like an account with a balance. The reviews took years to accumulate, they are the reason the profile produces business, and they do not move to a replacement profile if this one disappears.

So stop editing it casually. Keep your own copy of everything on it before you touch a field, and make any required change deliberately rather than between showings. If a suspension does land, an appeal that opens with your own records and dates moves faster than one that opens with a memory.

Do This
  1. Export or screenshot every review, photo, and field on your Google Business Profile today and store it somewhere outside Google.
  2. Make profile edits one at a time and log the date, so you know exactly what triggered any review that follows.
  3. Get your name, phone number, and address matching everywhere else first, so the edit is a single event rather than a series of them.
