You send market reports and share the link everywhere, and you assume the platform captures anyone who opens one. It captures nobody unless they click subscribe, and the control that changes it is three clicks deep under a line of small print in your own profile.
This is from an Altos platform training session, and the finding arrives in the question and answer portion, when an attendee asks the obvious thing: if someone is looking at my reports and I am not capturing their info, how do I fix that?
The trainer walks through the default first. Somebody scans your QR code or opens your link, the report loads, and that is the end of it. "The only way you're going to get that their contact information as a lead is if they click subscribe."
Then she shows where the control lives. Click your name, go to my profile, scroll down, "And you'll see tiny print. Advanced. If you click on advanced, you have a lead form level."
There are three levels, and they are three different trades between friction and names:
Unsubscribe only, the default behavior she describes, where "you will get that lead if they click subscribe".
On search, which she describes as: "they can search for a location, but in order to view the data, they have to subscribe".
Forced, which is "when they move around on the page and the pop-up keeps happening".
The rest of the session is what feeds those links: the report link always loads the current version while a downloaded image does not, every report has its own QR code, and she puts that QR code in a frame at open houses so a visitor can scan and subscribe on the spot.
“And you'll see tiny print. Advanced. If you click on advanced, you have a lead form level.”
This is the difference between marketing that looks busy and marketing that produces a name. A market report that anyone can read is a nice thing to send to people you already know, and it is worth nothing on a postcard to a neighborhood full of strangers, because the whole point of the postcard was to find out who is paying attention. Most agents never find the setting, conclude the reports do not generate anything, and go back to boosting posts.
There is a real trade in the middle option that is worth thinking about rather than defaulting to the most aggressive one. Your own past clients and neighbors will hit that wall too, and a subscribe gate in front of someone who already knows you is friction for nothing. A reasonable split is the ungated link for people already in your database and the gated version behind anything you put in front of strangers: the farm postcard, the open house sign, the QR code in a frame. And check the same menu in whatever market report tool you use, because this control is not unique to one platform.
